Vivian’s vivid void
Vivian could not believe her eyes while she was vacuuming her apartment. It had been such an eventful weekend. She had had so many people over for her birthday party she had spent the last five hours cleaning up everybody’s mess. She still needed to throw away some empty vodka bottles and to ventilate the living-room.
However, her anger built up like a volcano when she verified her favorite vase had been broken by some vibrant dancer. Not again. This was the story of her life. Always cleaning up after other people’s dishevelment.
It all started before her very graduation. She had been the valedictorian of her high-school and apparently, she was on the right track to victory. However, there was more than met the eye and she ended up being the victim of her own success.
Achieving such an accomplishment hadn’t been easy at all. She had worked her ass off, studying harder than anybody and she had even volunteered at a local vet. She had also become a vegan to keep face, even though she still craved for some venison. All in the name of success.
On her rise to victory, not only had some people stabbed her in the back and tried to bring her down but also they said her father had pulled some strings to have her give the valedictory. Back then, it felt like somebody was making voodoo on her out of jealousy.
After graduating, nothing had really changed. She was always the focus of envy. It seemed that the more virtuous she was, the more vulnerable she felt among her peers. But there was no room for revenge in Vivian’s heart, she just wanted to be left alone and become invisible.
She was still feeling very upset and, once she had finished cleaning the last vomit on the floor, she decided to leave a very angry voice mail on her boss’ phone saying she quitted. She had vented her frustration on him and there was no way back.
Now she had to think what to do with her life but the possibilities laying before her were so vast and so varied that even though she wanted to make a decision, she couldn’t. She just felt stuck and void of emotion. Again.
Maybe she could join an improv class or become a ventriloquist. There was a nearby venue that was always looking for new talent. Or perhaps she could go on vacation to some tropical paradise and finally live the adventure she deserved. But she would surely need some vaccines. And with her luck, she would end up being bitten by a venomous viper or attacked by a vulture. For sure.
