situation
You’ve been working for others your entire life and you are sick of it. TBH, you are not the kind of person who likes following other people’s orders so you decide to take matters into your own hands.
You made your call and despite the economy you are starting your own business. The only problem is that you lack any qualifications or professional skills. However, you realize you come from a big family of 7 and that you have been cleaning after them since forever. And, let’s be honest, besides being filthy most people don’t like cleaning either. Your million dollar idea is on: you’ll start a cleaning service.
You are so hard-working and committed that soon enough you have more customers than you can properly manage. You need people to help you out.
You receive some applications and instead of hiring seasoned professional cleaners you know that if you hire people at risk of social exclusion you will get an exemption in the social security taxes you pay for them. It’s a startup so every little counts.
task
Your new employees are eager to start but they need proper training first. As the head of the company, it’s up to you to decide.
Talk and discuss with your classmates about how to best clean a house. The aim of this exercise is to learn and improve verbs and vocabulary around house chores.
Do not forget that you are a teacher explaining how to do things.
What needs to be done?
Timing & efficiency
Talk about how to do everything. Go into detail and provide full descriptions as your new employees know nothing.
ex. To properly clean the floor, first we have to notice what kind of flooring we are dealing with. A broom will always be needed to sweep it but after that we won’t clean a wooden floor the same way we would a tiled one. For wooden floors, please use specific products and warm water. For tiles, apply some bleach and hot water.
