what would you do if…?

In this exercise, we have to talk about what we would do in these different hypothetical situations. As you may have guessed, its aim is for you to practice 2nd and 3rd conditional sentences, but don’t just stop there —state why and provide all the information you may consider.

if    past simple    conditional simple

  you win the lottery

  you meet your freebie

you get word your favorite snack is to be discontinued

you are offered a great promotion but the job is overseas

your child wants to dress in unusual clothes

your boo wants to ditch their job and start a business

you get a $1.000 ticket from your favorite store to spend in two minutes

a government secret agency needs you to carry out an undercover mission

the Queen of England extends you an invitation to have the afternoon tea with her

your favorite band is performing at the same time your sister-in-law is giving yet another harp recital

what would you have done if…?

Staircase wit or wisdom is a term coined after the French expression l’esprit de l’escalier. It refers to those situations when only after it has happened you realized what you could or should have said or done.

In all the situations below you froze, you weren’t able to articulate a single word and only after the chance is gone the perfect words or actions come to your mind.

if    past perfect    conditional perfecto

you notice people gossiping about your outfit

your co-worker says you are having a bad hair day

your mother-in-law brings out before all your family that time you totally embarrassed yourself

you eavesdrop your office crush admitting his or her love for you

your frenemy points out your weight gain
