pie | foot |
pies | feet |
diente | tooth |
dientes | teeth |
Con las partes del cuerpo en inglés siempre se usan los adjetivos posesivos (my head, your hands…) nunca el artículo the.
Levantad la mano | Raise your hand |
Me duele la pierna | My leg hurts |
the human body
head & face
Let’s start learning about the human body vocabulary in English with the head, the most prominent feature of our bodies.
Unless you happen to be bald, our heads are covered with hair, which comes in a lot of colors and shapes. Right under the hair we can find the forehead, which is the upper part of the face.
Our heads are connected to the rest of the body thanks to the neck, which also help us move our heads.

Eyes are a very important feature in a human face. They can tell you how a person is as in the quote «eyes are the window to the soul».
Human eyes can have many different colors, from brown to green and even violet. Eyebrows and eyelashes protect our eyes, preventing dust from entering our eyeballs.

Four out of our five sense organs are on our faces: eyes, mouth, nose and ears.
The nose helps us smell and the mouth tells us if something is tasty or disgusting. Well, it is not actually the mouth, but the tongue and its taste-buds. The tongue is also necessary for speaking.
Lips and teeth are also part of the mouth, and are essential to help us eat, smile and kiss.
The lower part of our face is called the chin and the part under our eyes, on both sides of our mouth is called the cheek.

upper body
Our upper body starts on our shoulders, right after the neck. Shoulders are joints that help our arms move and rotate. Likewise, elbows are joints in the middle of our arms that help further movement.
At the end of our arms we have hands, with five fingers each, like the thumb and others. Our fingers end up in nails.

Both men and women have a chest but only women have breasts, usually two. Nipples are a prominent part of a person’s chest and for pregnant women they are essential to feed their babies.
Right below our chest we have the abdomen, also known as belly or tummy. Right in the center of our bellies we have the belly-button, which is a reminder of how our mothers fed us when we were still unborn and living inside them. The belly ends up in the waist, which connects our upper body to our lower body.
On the other side of our upper body we have the back, which helps us stand and walk. At the end of the back, we all have a bottom, which is essential to sit down.

lower body
Our lower body starts right after the hips, which are joints that help our legs move. Legs can be divided into different parts, and the most important one is the thighs.
Other important joints in the lower body are our knees and ankles, the latter helping our feet move and rotate accordingly. We also have smaller joints in our feet that allow our toes to move and ultimately let us walk and run.

organs
Human beings have many organs that ease the working of our bodies.
Our brain helps us think and it works as the command center for our bodies. Everything that happens inside us is ordered by the brain.
The heart is a key organ for our lives. It pumps blood throughout our entire bodies, keeping us alive. Blood itself, spreads oxygen and nutrients to every cell in our body.
Oxygen is inhaled thanks to the lungs and food is processed and absorbed with the help of the stomach. Lungs also expel dangerous carbon dioxide out of our bodies, just like kidneys filtrate dangerous substances in our blood.
Finally, our bodies need bones and muscles to be able to stand and move.
