on the computer | en el ordenador |
Igualmente, todo lo que hacemos y vemos usando tecnología, lleva la preposición on.
on the Internet | en Internet |
on Facebook | en Facebook |
on the news | en las noticias |

devices
Devices are the hardware that allow us to enjoy video and audio.
Nowadays, most people stream this kind of content but we still use more traditional devices such as TV and radio. Some people, especially millenials, may see traditional devices as a bit old-fashioned but sometimes it is just nice to sit down and watch or listen to whatever is on without having to decide what to stream.
Our modern world could not be understood without computers, which are able to process information at a speed no human can. What is more, thanks to laptops and smartphones, now we can access all that information from almost everywhere.
Smartphones, also known as mobile phones in the UK and cell phones in the USA, really are a game changer. The usability of smartphones is beyond any doubt and they help us stay in touch with people, plan our jobs, keep track of our work out and so many more things. Can you think of how many devices we would need if it weren’t for smartphones? Crazy, right?

the Internet
The Internet has changed our lives forever and all of us use it on a daily basis for a lot of different purposes.
One of the most common things we do on the Internet is look up information. To do that we use browsers such us Google, which is the most popular one. In fact, Google is so popular that people now use it as a verb and they say «google it» instead of «look it up on the Internet».
Social media and apps are equally popular among Internet users. There are many different social media platforms such as Facebook or Instagram, where people can broadcast and share all kind of information, whether personal or professional.
A lot of people use apps on their smartphones and they are very liked too. Apps can help us find a certain location, keep track of our calorie intake, text our friends… the sky is the limit!
However, as the Internet and social media are more and more in fashion, they are also becoming more popular among hackers and people who try to steal our information. Antivirus can help protect our Internet presence as well as our devices from those nasty attacks.
Finally, the Internet could not happen without a connection, which relies heavily on the bandwitdh we are using. The wider, the faster. The same goes for wifi —wireless fidelity— which is a kind of connection that doesn’t need wires.

components
Computers and laptops alone can’t do all the work and there many PC components that can perform a wide range of tasks.
For example, we can turn a soft copy into a hard copy by using a printer. Some people actually prefer having their information on paper, specially if they have to study it.
Without a screen we wouldn’t be able to see what is going on on our computers and we also need a mouse to move around the screen and click in whatever we want to.
We also use keyboards to type on our computers so that we can write interesting and useful posts like this one 😉 Finally, we can also use speakers to listen to some music of film and microphones if we, for example, are having an online class or a videocall on Skype.
However, none of this would work without proper hardware inside our computers, which is like the muscles and bones of any computing device. Among this hardware component, processors, memory and motherboards are the most important ones because they make computers work.
